Burundian culture attaches great importance to the land as the only source of income and more than 90% of the population live from agriculture and livestock. However, the majority of land users are women despite the passive education of Burundian girls.
The economic dependence of the woman on the man in the household pushes her to stay in her comfort zone. In addition, Burundian law remains discriminatory in terms of the right to inheritance and property, hence the woman today is unable to take care of her family.
